I am about to undertake an MA in Cultural Policy and Management at City University. It is my ambition to build a career within the arts education sector, encouraging children and young people to engage with arts based activities and learn about culture past, present and future. I have trained and worked within the theatre industry since I was 16, working in a variety of backstage roles. In my professional work, I have supervised work experience students and worked on youth theatre projects on a number of occasions. I find it hugely rewarding to see young people learning and getting excited by the theatre, whether they are on stage or backstage.
My own variety of ecperiences in both arts education and work can be drawn upon for advice and guidance for the mentee I will work with. It troubles me that prospective arts undergraduates are being put off exploring their creative talents and gaining new skills by the huge hike in course fees, which is why I want to contribute to Arts Emergency’s fantastic scheme. It is very important that the arts are nurtured and protected in the face of brutal funding cuts and that is what I intend to dedicate, my professional career towards.
