Arts Emergency

While I was at school, I was never the greatest student. I would read and study and learn all the time but, led by my teenage rebellious streak, nothing that I read, study or learned was actually on the curriculum. I think that if I had someone to guide me in the right direction that wasn’t an authority figure then I would have ended up not only with better grades but also with a better idea of where I wanted to take my life. I hope that, through AE, I am able to be that person for someone else. My passion for the arts is wide-ranging and covers everything from social history, to art, to comedy and music. What I love most of all though, is the reaction that a piece of art can bring out in someone else. I am lucky enough to work at one of the best small museums in London and before that, was a volunteer there. I never tire of seeing people’s personal and instinctive responses to the exhibitions there. I’ve seen people awed into silence, brought to floods of tears, or simply confused by what is in front of them. I think that what I would offer as a mentor is not only the experience of having worked and volunteered at a museum and the contacts that brings but also a great passion for not just what art is but what art can do.
